Frequently Asked Questions

Planning for your retirement can be an overwhelming task. By listening to your retirement goals and analyzing your comprehensive financial situation, a good financial planner can provide personalized strategies and ongoing counsel to simplify the process, incorporate all areas of your financial, tax and estate planning, and offer peace of mind.

Because of the diverse background of our team of planners, you may see various credentials attached to the names of our advisors. Some may be familiar to you: others might not be! Below, we’ve broken down each of these designations to further clarify our advisors’ qualifications:

CFP® – A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ must have at least a four-year degree from an accredited university, as well as complete rigorous coursework on financial planning to meet the education requirement. Further, they must pass the CFP® exam to prove competency in comprehensive financial planning advise. Before using the CFP® designation, an advisor must complete 4,000 to 6,000 hours of professional experience in a field related to the financial planning process. Finally, the CFP® designation may only be used by advisors who agree to uphold the strict ethics requirements of the CFP® board.

NAPFA-Registered Advisor – A NAPFA-Registered advisor is fee-only, has a fiduciary role of serving the client’s best interest, and is required to have 30 hours each year of continuing education.

CPWA® – A Certified Private Wealth Advisor® specializes in serving high-net-worth clients. The CPWA® certification program explores aspects of high-net-worth clients’ needs beyond the scope of investment or financial planning. CPWA® advisors must hold an accredited degree or a financial license, must have at least five years of financial services experience, and must successfully complete the education requirement coursework and exam, as well as a background check.

RMA® – A Retirement Management Advisor® has extensive training and education in unbaised, product-neutral retirement planning and navigation, including wealth building, retirement transitions, and managing tax strategies and income generation in retirement. RMA® designees must have at least 3 years of financial services experience, complete the RMA® training and pass the exam, and satisfy a stringent code of ethics and conduct. These designees must also complete a minimum number of Continuing Education requirements.

FPQP– The Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional (FPQP) designation symbolizes the ability to gather and review pertinent financial information, as well as analyze clients’ situations and provide ways to improve their overall financial picture. While FPQPdesignees can give advice, they usually provide support for CFP® professionals and their clients.
